University of Patanjali (UOP), located near the serene Himalayan foothills in the sacred city of Haridwar, Uttarakhand, is named after the great Indian sage Maharshi Patanjali (c. 900 BC).
Maharshi Patanjali first compiled numerous foundational writings on Yoga in the form of aphorisms. The University was established through Act No. 4/2006 of the Uttarakhand State Legislature, published in the State Gazette on 05.04.2006, and is sponsored by the Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust (PYP). The University is approved under Section 2F of the UGC Act, 1956, and is a proud member of the Association of Indian Universities.
The University is fully residential. Each day commences with the resonant chant of the cosmic sound "Aum". The campus comes alive with the practice of Yoga, ensuring the holistic—physical, mental, and spiritual—well-being of all through morning and evening sacred Yajnas. Blessed by Yoga Rishi Swami Ramdev ji (President) and Ayurved Shiromani Acharya Balkrishna ji (Vice Chancellor), our academic horizons span Yoga Science, Naturopathy, Philosophy, Sanskrit, Psychology, History, Tourism, Physical Education, Music, and Applied Sciences.
The uniqueness of the University is reflected in teaching methodologies which integrate contemporary educational paradigms with the ancient Guru-Shishya Parampara, fostering personalized guidance with an emphasis on holistic development. The university nurtures students academically, physically, and spiritually, with a deep commitment to the practical application of core Vedic disciplines.
The University's commitment to excellence extends to its research wing, the Patanjali Research Foundation, renowned for pioneering research in Ayurveda and Yoga. Collaborations with elite national and international institutions offer students unparalleled opportunities for engagement in sponsored projects and internships, paving the way for successful placements in esteemed organizations and entrepreneurial ventures, including the Patanjali family institutions.
Equipped with modern amenities, the campus boasts two theaters (2,200 and 600 seats) alongside a multi-purpose amphitheater. It hosts active NCC (31st UK Battalion) and NSS programs.
Sports facilities include a multipurpose indoor sports hall alongside outdoor fields for football, cricket, hockey, and basketball. Our students consistently excel in traditional Indian games and have won consecutive gold medals from 2017 to 2023 in woodball at the All-India Inter-University level.
